Location and planned facilities

The location of the sports center is located in the populated area of Futog, bordered by Fruškogorska and Proleterska streets, and the southern side abuts the defensive embankment.

Within the sports complex, for the purpose of arranging the area of public use, and in order to complete the implementation of the sports center complex, the following is planned:

• Construction of an indoor swimming pool facility with accompanying facilities
• Construction of a tourist and hospitality facility
• Arrangement of open sports fields and greening of free areas of the complex
• Construction of traffic areas and Construction of a substation in the complex.

Indoor swimming pool
and its functions

A number of different activities and contents are planned in the indoor swimming pool facility, which resulted in the functional organization of the facility into several functional units. Several activities will take place:

• Swimming and water polo competitions
• Training for swimmers and water polo players
• Recreational swimming
• Training for non-swimmers and swimming schools
• Accompanying training program for athletes and recreational players - gym, fitness, etc.

In order for all these activities to take place without hindrance, a number of accompanying and auxiliary spaces have been provided. The building is designed as a ground floor with a gallery in one part of the building. A large and a small pool are located on the ground floor. The tribunes are located on one, longer side of the Olympic pool, on the south side of the facility. The northern side was left without bleachers due to the possibility of opening larger glass surfaces to a beautiful view and greenery. For the use of the swimming pool, several scenarios were created, but two are basic:

• Use of the facility during competitions (water polo matches, swimming competitions, team training),
• Use of the facility for recreational purposes (when there is no competition).

The main entrance to the facility is on the west side via the access plateau and access ramps. Through the windbreak area, you enter the entrance hall. Cash desks and an information desk are provided in the windbreak area. All accompanying contents are placed under the stands.

Summer use and
additional facilities

The special quality of this area is the possibility of "opening" the pool area during the summer period. It is planned that on the east side of the building, through the glazed surfaces, which would be opened during the summer, the pool area will spill over to the outside area and that an area for sunbathing, sitting and the like will be formed in the greenery.

In the service of that space, leaning against the corridor for the audience, a smaller coffee bar was created that would also serve the "garden" in the open air.

Above a smaller part of the building, between axes 1 and 4, a gallery (floor) has been placed at a height of +5.40m. The gallery is accessed from the main hall, via a three-pronged staircase and a passenger lift in the core of the staircase. A second gallery staircase is placed along axis I and between axes 3 and 4. This staircase connects the pool area and the gallery and also serves as a second evacuation staircase.

In the gallery of the facility, compatible contents are provided which are the function of additional training programs for athletes, or for training of recreational people, such as the gym, fitness and the like. A sufficient number of changing rooms with sanitary facilities and shower cabins are also provided for these facilities. A special feature of the gallery is the coffee bar. Also, a special space has been set aside for organizing the office for the administration of the building.

Architecture and materials

When designing the building, special care was taken to ensure that the building fits unobtrusively into its surroundings, and that its appearance attracts visitors.

The basic grid, the distance between the columns on the facade walls of the building is 6.0m, while the interior of the building is completely free of columns. The building is covered with a wooden roof structure made of glued laminated wood in an arc shape. The arch girders have a span of 43.7m and rest on a supporting reinforced concrete structure at the level of the gallery and cornice at an elevation of +9.30m. The supports made of glued laminated wood, with their "soft" arc shape and natural wood, give a special warmth to the pool area.

The building is designed so that the functions and spaces of the closed part of the pool "spill over" to the outside space during the summer, but also that all elements of construction and materialization interpenetrate and define the building. The arched construction of the roof also defined the shape of the building, the material of the arched construction is the main motif of the interior, and the first and last of the arched supports are especially emphasized in the processing and materialization of the front and rear facades. The other materials used on the facades - glass, plastic sheet - have their counterpart and place in the interior of the building.

The materials provided for the exterior finishing of the building were selected to meet aesthetic requirements and correspond to technical norms and quality. A combination of three types of facade was designed:

1. Glazed facade made of aluminum profiles and with glass glazing of the appropriate characteristics,
2. Windy facade made of facade cladding type Fundermax, Trespa or similar with thermal insulation of hard pressed stone wool,
3. Facade made of thermal insulation panels 15 cm thick.

Special attention in the project is devoted to landscaping and green areas, which include sports facilities and fields, outdoor gyms and children's playgrounds. With the planned contents in the facility of the indoor swimming pool and in the area of the sports complex, it is possible to live in the complex all year round.
